Becoming More Blind to Gender?”
In keeping with its diversity objectives, OACTA is pleased to welcome
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Maureen O’Connor as our keynote
speaker for its inaugural Women in the Law seminar. Justice
O’Connor will share her experiences as a lawyer and judge, noting
cases from her tenure on the Ohio Supreme Court, in discussing
how women are faring in the legal profession. Justice O’Connor’s
address will inspire reflection and conversation for the seminar.

2:15 – 3:15 pm “Effectively Using Social Networking Sites to
Ethically Prepare Your Case”
Social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as
the internet in general, have become valuable assets in the defense
of personal injury lawsuits. This session will focus on how they can
help or harm your case, rules of admissibility and foundation that
affect your ability to use and rely upon the information obtained,
and your professional responsibility in using the information. The
ethics of using such sites and what to avoid for your practice will
also be discussed. Pending Ethics credit.

How do you deal with other lawyers and clients in tense, potentially
explosive, difficult situations? This segment will discuss how to address
those situations in the context of the ideals of professionalism for lawyers
as set for the Statement on Professionalism, A Lawyer’s Creed, and A
Lawyer’s Aspirational Ideals adopted by the Ohio Supreme Court. Pending
Professionalism credit.

Continuing Legal Education
This seminar is approved for 6.5 hours CLE hours (including 60 minutes of ethics, 60 minutes of professionalism, 30 minutes of substance abuse) with the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education.
